A spring luncheon is planned after worship on Sunday, April 19. We will celebrate and thank all the men, women, and kids who “spring” into action and volunteer their time and talents at Westfield. Chicken salad sandwiches and dessert will be provided by the Discipleship & Membership Committee. Please bring your table service and a salad or side dish to share.
The day before Good Friday is called Maundy Thursday. The word “Maundy” comes from the Latin word mandatum, which means “commandment.” In the gospel of John, Jesus makes this statement during the Last Supper: “I am with you only a little longer. … I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:33-35, NRSV).
Maundy Thursday should always be a time of sharing with others, showing loving concern for one another, and partaking of Holy Communion. That is what the Lord asked of his disciples and asks of us.
Join us at 6:00 p.m. in fellowship hall for dinner. Ham, rolls, beverages and dessert will be provided. Please bring your table service and a side dish (casserole or salad) to share. Following dinner at 7:00 p.m. we will gather in the sanctuary for a dramatic reenactment of The Last Supper followed by a communion service.
May our hearts be touched by the depth of his love for each of his disciples, then and now.
Jesus’ Last Supper was actually a Jewish Passover. Giselle Le-Aupepe of Jews for Jesus will re-create the traditional Passover service and explain how it foreshadowed Jesus’ death and resurrection in a presentation called Christ in the Passover at Westfield on Monday, March 30, at 7:00 p..m.
This presentation is free and we invite our friends and neighbors to attend. Giselle will be happy to answer questions after the presentation.
